Loretta writes, “I house-sat for a woman who was a certified yoga instructor, and I spent my first Time Credits getting yoga lessons from her. It was a disaster at first; I fell on my rear end! But with her help, I tried it again, and now I love yoga. She was the right person at the right time.”

Building Community One Hour at a Time

SUN, DEC 1ST - Potluck Supper for all at 4:00 PM.  See "Our Activities" on the right side.  Come and meet those that have already joined and prospective new members.  We all will eat together and then break into two groups to learn the ropes! Joan from Timebanks of Puget Sound will explain how it works and show the website to people interested in timebanking, while the Vashon Timebank Committee will run a breakout session for active members. We all learn together and from one another. Please join us!

Our core principles revolve around the fact that each of us has unique gifts, talents, and resources to share, and we all have needs that others can fill. Timebanks build connections and bring out the best in us all!

How does it work?   Timebanking helps neighbors enjoy life’s niceties and necessities by exchanging time instead of dollars. Through Timebanks of Puget Sound, Vashon Timebankers use an online system to list the services they want to give and receive. The website introduces timebank members to each other, facilitates exchanges, and keeps track of the hours given and received. All services are valued equally in hourly increments. Services given are credits and services used are debits in your timebank account.  You can provide service to one member and receive service from a different member, while logging your transactions online.

Vashon members are listed under the "Vashon Neighborhood” in the Timebanks of Puget Sound (ToPS) database. Vashon members are automatically members of ToPS and can exchange services with other neighborhoods in the region as well as with fellow Vashon Timebank members. The online database makes it easy to see what skills and services members, both here and “over town”, have to offer, as well as what services members need, so you can exchange skills both locally and in the greater Puget Sound community.
